Aston, PA, January 2004 – Amacoil, Inc., has announced the availability of an in-line spooler to assist winding machine designers faced with space restrictions. When it is not possible to conventionally position a spooler – in front of, behind, below or above the take-up spool – the in-line spooler may be used because the take-up spool is placed in-line with the motor and traverse drive, all on a single case-hardened (RC 60) smooth shaft. A material guide mounted to the traverse is moved back-and-forth to assure even placement the material onto the spool.
The custom engineered assembly includes a Uhing "rolling ring" traverse drive which automatically reverses the material guide travel direction without programming or electronics. Reversal points are mechanically triggered by end stops which are adjustable to accommodate spools of varying widths. The Uhing traverse also features a dial enabling a 10:1 turndown of the traverse drive linear speed, without changing gears or the rotational speed of the motor.
Amacoil application engineers are available to assist with traverse drive size selection which is based on the diameter of the material being wound, and on the size and weight of the take-up spool being used. Eight rolling ring drive sizes (15 mm to 80 mm) meet most spooling application requirements. Each rolling ring traverse drive is also available in a special 2X axial thrust model which doubles the axial thrust without significantly increasing the size of the drive unit or assembly.
