Pick-and-place
X and Y axis movement controlled by an RS rolling
ring drive assembly
|
|
For indexing
and positioning applications such as pick-and-place machines,
the RS rolling ring drive offers these benefits to linear motion
applications:
Smooth shaft. Because
the shaft is threadless, its surface remains clean and clog-free.
There are no threads where dirt and debris can collect and
cause a jam. The design and fabrication, or purchase, of a
protective shaft bellows assembly is generally not needed.
No
backlash. Special engineering of the bearing assembly
prevents backlash, and makes it unnecessary to purchase extra
anti-backlash solutions such as preloaded nuts, shims or double
enveloping gears. There is never any "play" between
shaft and bearing regardless of shaft rotational direction
or speed - including during reversal of the system.
Built
in overload protection. Unlike screw-based systems, which
continue to churn and grind in overload situations, an RS
rolling ring drive unit will slip, not jam.
No
load carrier needed. The RS drive unit bears the payload
directly. Typically, there is no need to design or purchase
a special load carrier.
Efficiency
option. An optional free-movement lever permits rapid
manual positioning of the drive unit - while the system is
stopped. It is not necessary to "jog" the unit into
position.
