Model RS Linear Drives for Positioning & Indexing Applications

Linear Bearing Features and Benefits

RG Features

Flexibility in meeting pitch requirements

The Uhing RS "rolling ring" linear drive is available in five, fixed pitch (linear distance traveled per one shaft revolution) settings for improved flexibility in meeting linear motion system pitch requirements. Unlike the RG variable pitch drive, the RS comes standard with a fixed pitch setting of 0.5 times the shaft diameter. (The model RS4-25, for example, runs on a 25 mm drive shaft and has a fixed pitch setting of 12.5 mm of travel per shaft revolution.) Each RS drive is also available with four other pitch settings: 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4 times the shaft diameter. There is no maintenance except for periodic shaft lubrication. The RS is well-suited for indexing, measuring, positioning and PLC-controlled operations.

Smooth, unthreaded drive shaft

Because there are no threads on the drive shaft, the Uhing RS rolling ring linear bearing requires no bellows assembly to protect the shaft from debris and dirt. The shaft remains clog-free. Additionally, the drive shaft will "slip," not jam, in the event of overload whereas a threaded shaft can continue to "churn" causing damage to expensive system components. No shaft cleaning means less downtime and better production rates.

Traversing housing accepts load directly

For light, uniform loads, there is no need to use linear bearings, slide mechanisms or other load carrying devices. Payloads may be attached directly to the RS "nut". For heavier or overhung loads, Amacoil can provide an optional linear slide load carrier.

Free movement on shaft

An optional free movement lever permits manual or pneumatically actuated positioning of the traversing housing while the system is stopped. Screw-based systems require the shaft to turn in order to move the nut.

Backlash free

Rolling ring engineering eliminates backlash. There is no play between shaft and bearing. When the shaft turns, the rotary motion is immediately converted into linear ouptut. To accomplish this with other devices requires the purchase of more expensive preloaded nuts.

8 sizes meet most requirements

Amacoil manufactures a variety of RS linear drive sizes to accommodate varying payloads. In most cases, an off-the-shelf unit will meet your needs. If not, an Amacoil applications engineer can assist you in selecting a custom RS drive.
